El Grupo Hyundai ha anunciado hoy sus planes de crear una empresa conjunta de producción de baterías para vehículos eléctricos (EV) en EE. UU. con su socio SK On.
Las filiales del Grupo, Hyundai Motor Company, Kia Corporation y Hyundai Mobis, han aprobado hoy el plan en sus respectivos consejos de administración. En noviembre del 2022, el Grupo firmó un memorando de entendimiento con SK On para garantizar el suministro de baterías de EV en Norteamérica.
Se espera que el importe total de la inversión de la empresa conjunta sea de aproximadamente 5.000 millones de dólares, con una participación del 50% para el Grupo y el 50% para SK On.
A través de la joint venture, ambas partes planean establecer una planta de células de batería EV en el condado de Bartow, Georgia, cerca de las instalaciones de producción del Grupo en EE.UU., incluyendo Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama, Kia Georgia y Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America.
Se espera que la nueva planta empiece a fabricar células de batería en la segunda mitad de 2025, con una capacidad de producción anual de 35 GWh, suficiente para respaldar la producción de 300.000 EV.
Hyundai Mobis fabricará baterías con células de la planta y las suministrará a las fábricas estadounidenses del Grupo para la producción de los modelos EV de Hyundai, Kia y Genesis.
La empresa conjunta acelera aún más los esfuerzos de electrificación del Grupo y refuerza su posición como líder de EV en el mercado de EE. UU. con un suministro estable de baterías para apoyar la producción de modelos EV altamente competitivos.
SK On ha sido un socio estratégico para el Grupo y ambos han trabajado juntos en la producción de modelos EV de renombre mundial, como Hyundai IONIQ 5, Kia EV6 y el Genesis GV60.
