“El peso mexicano ha sufrido una depreciación de más del 0.50% desde la apertura del mercado esta semana, alcanzando niveles de la zona de $20.47 pesos por dólar. Este movimiento bajista se debe principalmente a la incertidumbre generada por las políticas arancelarias del presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, quien ha propuesto un arancel del 25% sobre las importaciones automotrices. Esta medida ha intensificado los temores de una recesión en México, con proyecciones que indican una posible contracción del PIB del 1.3% en 2025 si los aranceles se mantienen vigentes.
El contexto económico también muestra signos de deterioro. En enero, el Indicador Global de la Actividad Económica (IGAE) registró una contracción del 0.16%, lo que refuerza la preocupación de que la economía mexicana podría entrar en una recesión técnica. Ante este panorama, los inversionistas han adoptado una postura de cautela, monitoreando de cerca la evolución de las relaciones comerciales entre México y Estados Unidos, así como las respuestas de otros países afectados por los aranceles.
El próximo 2 de abril será una fecha clave para los mercados, ya que se esperan nuevos anuncios en materia arancelaria. La posibilidad de represalias por parte de otros socios comerciales, como Canadá y la Unión Europea, podría agravar la volatilidad en el mercado cambiario. En este escenario, la atención de los analistas y economistas estará puesta en las decisiones que tomen los gobiernos y los bancos centrales para mitigar los efectos de estas políticas proteccionistas.
El Banco de México ha reaccionado a esta situación con un recorte de 50 puntos base en su tasa de interés, situándola en 9.00%. Además, ha dejado abierta la posibilidad de realizar nuevos ajustes en el futuro, dependiendo de la evolución de las condiciones económicas. Este movimiento se alinea con las expectativas del mercado, que anticipa hasta tres recortes de tasas por parte de la Reserva Federal de Estados Unidos en los próximos meses.
Sin embargo, algunos miembros del banco central estadounidense han advertido que los nuevos aranceles podrían generar presiones inflacionarias en el corto plazo. Si la inflación repunta de manera significativa, la Reserva Federal podría reconsiderar su política monetaria, retrasando o limitando los recortes de tasas que se esperan en 2025. Esto podría tener un impacto adicional en el tipo de cambio y en la confianza de los inversionistas.
