Estafas comunes

Utiliza esta información para evitar estafas migratorias comunes. Si sospechas que eres víctima de fraude migratorio, puedes denunciarlo a la Comisión Federal de Comercio o a la oficina Estatal de protección al consumidor.

Suplantadores gubernamentales

Estate atento a las personas que se hacen pasar por funcionarios del USCIS. USCIS solo te contactará a través de canales oficiales del gobierno y no te contactará a través de tus cuentas personales en redes sociales (como Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.).

Estafas con el Formulario I-9 y el correo electrónico

• Hemos sabido que los empleadores han recibido correos electrónicos fraudulentos solicitando el Formulario I-9, Verificación de Elegibilidad Laboral, información que parece provenir de USCIS. Los empleadores no están obligados a presentar los Formularios I-9 a USCIS. Los empleadores deben tener un Formulario I-9 para cada persona en su nómina que deba completar el Formulario I-9. Los empleadores deben conservar estos formularios durante un tiempo determinado. Visita I-9 Central para obtener más información sobre la retención, almacenamiento e inspecciones del Formulario I-9.

• Aunque algunas direcciones de correo electrónico puedan parecer legítimas, por ejemplo: news@uscis.gov, en realidad son una estafa. El cuerpo del correo puede contener etiquetas de USCIS y de la Oficina del Inspector General, tu dirección y un botón de descarga fraudulenta que enlaza a una dirección web no gubernamental (uscis-online.org). No respondas a estos correos ni hagas clic en los enlaces que contienen.

• Si crees que has recibido un correo electrónico fraudulento solicitando información del Formulario I-9 de USCIS, denúncialo a la Comisión Federal de Comercio. Si no estás seguro de si es una estafa, reenvía el correo sospechoso al administrador web de USCIS. Revisaremos los correos electrónicos recibidos y los compartiremos con las agencias de seguridad según corresponda. Denunciar fraudes no afectará negativamente a tu solicitud.

• “Notarios Públicos”

• En muchos países latinoamericanos, el término "notario público" (que en español significa "notario público") significa algo diferente a lo que significa en Estados Unidos. En muchos países de habla hispana, los "notarios" son abogados poderosos con credenciales legales especiales. Sin embargo, en Estados Unidos, los notarios públicos son personas autorizadas por los gobiernos estatales para presenciar la firma de documentos importantes y administrar juramentos, pero no necesariamente están autorizados para prestar servicios legales. Un notario público no está autorizado para prestarte servicios legales relacionados con la inmigración. Solo un abogado o un representante acreditado que trabaje para una organización reconocida por el Departamento de Justicia (DOJ) puede ofrecerle asesoramiento legal. Cuidado con las personas que se hacen pasar por abogados de inmigración (como abogados sin licencia o con licencia inhabilitada).
