Trump autoriza operaciones de la CIA en Venezuela
El presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, autorizó a la Agencia Central de Inteligencia (CIA) realizar operaciones encubiertas en Venezuela y asegura que estudia la posibilidad de llevar ataques contra «el narcotráfico» en tierra, tras asegurar que han paralizado casi por completo las embarcaciones con narcóticos.
Cuando Trump estaba defendiendo los ataques con misiles a embarcaciones ligadas por su Administración al narcotráfico en el Caribe sur, el mandatario decidió asegurar que está estudiando llevar su campaña militar a tierra.
«Lo hemos frenado casi por completo por mar. Ahora lo frenaremos por tierra», dijo Trump en el Despacho Oval, al ser cuestionado por periodistas al respecto.
Además, el republicano confirmó, como ya había adelantado el diario The New York Times, que autorizó a la CIA a realizar operaciones encubiertas en Venezuela porque, dijo, los líderes de ese país han «vaciado sus cárceles» para enviar a presos a Estados Unidos. También acusó a Caracas de traficar droga hacia territorio estadounidense.
Pero al ser cuestionado sobre si había autorizado a la CIA la eliminación de Nicolas Maduro, Trump se limitó a decir que sería «ridículo» responder a esa pregunta.
Sin embargo, el mandatario agregó que con sus acciones estaba seguro que los líderes de Venezuela «estaban sintiendo la presión».
Defiende destrucción de embarcaciones
El presidente estadounidense dijo que durante 30 años los esfuerzos para detener el narcotráfico fue «ineficaz» por parte de la Guardia Costera y que «nunca funcionaron», por haber actuado de forma «políticamente correcta».
Trump también defendió los al menos cinco ataques del Comando Sur contra embarcaciones ligadas al narcotráfico diciendo que «eran embarcaciones muy rápidas y modernas, pero no tan rápidas como un misil».
Durante sus operativos en el Caribe sur a pocos kilómetros de las costas venezolanas, desde agosto pasado, Trump ha recibido críticas de senadores demócratas del Senado quienes alertan sobre un uso excesivo de la fuerza militar sin autorización legislativa y agregando que durante los ataques la Administración no ha informado sobre la identidad de ninguna de las más de 20 personas que habrían sido eliminadas.
Trump respondió diciendo que los barcos «estaban llenos de polvo de fentanilo» y agregó «estaban cargados de droga y eso es lo que importa.
CIA operaba en paralelo al operativo militar
Horas antes de que Trump se pronunciara, el New York Times citó fuentes del Gobierno que aseguraron que la autorización para que la CIA realizara operativos confidenciales en Venezuela habría iniciado en paralelo al gran operativo militar con buques, submarinos y aviones en el Caribe a finales del verano.
Trump no dio detalles de temporalidad ni operativos, pero decidió hacer énfasis en los supuestos beneficios de sus ataques a las lanchas en el Caribe, diciendo que si eliminas a tres narcotraficantes se salva a unas 25.000 personas.
Por su parte, Maduro durante un contacto telefónico con el canal estatal Venezolana de Televisión (VTV) adelantó que se activarán las llamadas Zonas Operativas de Defensa Integral (ZODI) en «parte de la frontera con la hermana Colombia», en el marco del plan defensivo, que comenzó a desarrollarse de manera progresiva hace una semana, principalmente en regiones con salida al Caribe.
Maduro, a través de su canal de Telegram, pidió a los ciudadanos, militares y policías de Caracas y Miranda, donde dijo que habitan casi siete millones de personas, a activar «toda la fuerza de defensa integral» para proteger «montañas, costas, escuelas, hospitales, fábricas, mercados y comunidades», con el fin, agregó, de «seguir ganando la paz».
