Honoring Service, Giving Thanks
By: Representative Robert Manger
This past Veterans Day, I had the privilege of speaking at the Veterans Day Block Party and Flag Retirement Ceremony hosted by BSA Troop 275, joined by Choctaw High School JROTC cadets. Together, they retired 2,970 American flags, a powerful reminder of the respect and care our nation owes its symbols and the people who defend them.
At the ceremony, I reflected on the sacrifices of the men and women who have worn our nation’s uniform. These individuals carried the weight of duty, protected our homes, and stood watch over the freedoms that define America. To all of our veterans, thank you. Your courage has shaped our nation, and your example continues to guide us.
Retiring these flags, worn and weathered from service, reminded us that symbols matter. Just as our veterans served with dignity, we honored these flags with the same respect they deserve.
I want to thank Choctaw Mayor Chad Allcox for inviting me and the Scouts for leading this ceremony and showing what service and respect look like in action. They were a reminder that patriotism is not just a memory; it lives on in the next generation.
I highly recommend attending this meaningful annual event.
I also attended the Midwest City Veterans Breakfast at Eastside Church of Christ, hosted by the Midwest City Chamber of Commerce. It was a meaningful event, and I am grateful for the invitation. I appreciated the chance to visit with local veterans and their families and enjoyed my time with everyone who took part.
Just as Veterans Day gave us the chance to reflect, honor and express gratitude for those who preserved the freedoms we enjoy, Thanksgiving is just around the corner, offering us the opportunity to give thanks for our friends and family.
Thanksgiving is a time to pause and recognize what we have. It provides an opportunity to reflect on our blessings and spend time with family and friends, appreciating the people and experiences that matter most.
I am honored to represent you at the Capitol!
