OKCPHIL presenta el primer concierto de Inasmuch Classics de 2023 con "Nordic Soundscapes"

La Filarmónica de Oklahoma City comienza el nuevo año con nuestro cuarto concierto de la Serie de Clásicos de Inasmuch, "Nordic Soundscapes", el sábado 7 de enero a las 8 p.m. en el Civic Center Music Hall.

"Cuando piensas en 'Nordic', ¿qué te viene a la mente?", pregunta el maestro Alexander Mickelthwate. "Para mí, es la aurora boreal, los lagos finlandeses, el fuego y el hielo islandeses, los fiordos noruegos, el estilo de vida sueco. En pocas palabras, belleza prístina y clara".

Mickelthwate y el OKCPHIL llevarán a la audiencia en un viaje musical con música de algunas de las estrellas más grandes de esa región. La primera mitad se centra en dos estrellas del pop islandés: el cantante Bjork y Kjartan Sveinsson, pianista de la banda Sigur Ros.

"Bjork es famosa no solo por su 'vestido de cisne' en los Oscar, sino por sus canciones únicas, instrumentaciones coloridas, voz renacentista y letras extravagantes", dijo Mickelthwate. "Nuestra cantante que dará vida a las canciones de Bjork será la soprano ganadora del premio Grammy Hila Plitmann, con quien trabajé durante mi tiempo en la Filarmónica de Los Ángeles".

Mickelthwate viajó a la capital islandesa de Reikiavik hace unos años. Mientras estuvo allí, tomó un café con Sveinsson y recorrió su estudio.

"La banda de Sveinsson, Sigur Ros, es famosa por sus mundos sonoros emocionales y melancólicos", dijo Mickelthwate. "Su estudio está rodeado de naturaleza, una enorme cordillera y agua. Su música parece remontarse a la época del Renacimiento. No hay nada contemporáneo, es pura belleza, como si capturara la esencia de su entorno a través de la música".

La segunda mitad del concierto presenta la Sinfonía No. 5 de Sibelius.

"Los compositores se inspiran en todo tipo de cosas", dijo Mickelthwate. Mientras trabajaba en su cabaña de composición en el campo finlandés, un grupo de cisnes voló justo sobre la cabeza de Sibelius. Fue golpeado por la inspiración repentina y compuso el famoso tema de metales del último movimiento en su Sinfonía No. 5. Estamos ansiosos por tocar eso para nuestra audiencia en Oklahoma City".

OKCPHIL Presents First Inasmuch Classics Concert of 2023

with "Nordic Soundscapes"

The Oklahoma City Philharmonic begins the new year with our fourth Inasmuch Classics Series concert, “Nordic Soundscapes,” Saturday, Jan. 7, 8 p.m. at Civic Center Music Hall.

 “When you think of ‘Nordic,’ what comes to mind?” asks Maestro Alexander Mickelthwate. “To me, it’s northern lights, Finnish lakes, Icelandic fire and ice, Norwegian fjords, Swedish lifestyle. Simply put, pristine and clear beauty.”

 Mickelthwate and the OKCPHIL will take the audience on a musical journey with music from some of that region’s biggest stars. The first half centers around two Icelandic pop stars—singer Bjork, and Kjartan Sveinsson, pianist for the band Sigur Ros.

 “Bjork is famous not only for her ‘swan dress’ at the Oscars, but for her unique songs, colorful instrumentations, renaissance voice and quirky lyrics,” Mickelthwate said. “Our singer bringing Bjork’s songs to life will be Grammy Award-winning soprano Hila Plitmann, with whom I had worked during my time at the LA Philharmonic.”

 Mickelthwate traveled to the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik a few years ago. While there, he had coffee with Sveinsson, and toured his studio.

“Sveinsson’s band, Sigur Ros, is famous for its emotional and melancholic sound worlds,” Mickelthwate said. “Their studio is surrounded by nature, a huge mountain range, and water. His music seems to go back to the Renaissance time. There is nothing contemporary, it is pure beauty, as if he captured the essence of his surroundings through music.”

 The second half of the concert features Sibelius’ Symphony No. 5.

 “Composers are inspired by all sorts of things,” Mickelthwate said. “While working in his composition hut in the Finnish countryside, a group of swans flew right about Sibelius’ head. He was struck by sudden inspiration and composed the famous brass theme of the last movement in his Symphony No. 5. We are looking forward to playing that for our audience in Oklahoma City.”
