Cancelar membresía de gimnasio

Tengo una membresía con un gimnasio que quiero cancelar, pero no me deja el manager porque firmé un contrato por dos años. Ya tengo tiempo de no ir, ¿qué puedo hacer para salir del contrato?

Creo que es más difícil salirte de un contrato de gimnasio que escaparte de la cárcel de Alcatraz. No entiendo por qué lo hacen tan difícil especialmente cuando ya no estás utilizando su servicio. En cierta forma lo que eso nos dice que su modelo de negocio funciona cobrándole a la gente, use o no el servicio, y por eso quieren a todo mundo bajo un contrato de 24 meses. Este modelo de negocio deja un terrible sabor de boca a quien se ve atrapado en un callejón sin salida con ese contrato. En mi opinión, forzar a la gente a pagar por un servicio que ya no necesita ni usa es mala propaganda para el negocio porque no solo nunca vuelves y sino que, además, le cuentas a todo el mundo para que no caigan en esa ratonera.

Me da la impresión de que hiciste esta compra por impulso. Es decir, en algún momento tuviste el propósito de hacer ejercicio, y para lograrlo, te inscribiste en un gimnasio. Luego, el encanto fue desvaneciéndose y el sofá, las películas con palomitas de maíz y otro tipo de entretenimiento ocupó el lugar del gimnasio. Si fuiste un par de meses o un par de veces no viene al caso, lo importante es que lo que pensaste que era un buen negocio, porque solo cobraban $50 dólares por mes, y que te iba a ayudar a mantenerte en forma, termina siendo carísimo para tu cartera y para tu salud. Eso, en lugar de gasto, habría sido una inversión. En fin, si mi abuelita tuviera ruedas, sería bicicleta.

Lamento decírtelo, pero existe la posibilidad de que tengas que cumplir el contrato. Tú lo firmaste y eso significa compromiso. Te recomiendo que lo leas y veas si te ofrecen una cláusula de salida. Tengo entendido que la mayoría te permite cancelar el contrato, pero te cobran una penalización. El manager no te lo va a decir ni te quiere dejar que lo hagas, porque, aunque pagues la penalización (que en algunos casos es un aviso con 90 días de anticipación), eso es menor a lo que le ingresaría si pagas todo el contrato. Léelo detenidamente para encontrar la salida. Si no encuentras nada, intenta tener una conversación con el dueño o gerente y explícale las razones que tienes para retirarte, que puede ser desde la calidad del servicio que ellos prestan hasta tu situación económica. En el tono adecuado, hasta el más marro se derrite.

Otra recomendación es que no dejes de pagar simplemente por coraje. Si lo haces, eso entrará a cobranza, lo que significa más cargos, intereses y costos legales. Sin duda reportarían esto al buró de crédito y entonces podría afectar hasta lo que pagas por tus seguros.

Si no hay manera de salirte del contrato, entonces sácale todo el jugo posible. Míralo como una inversión en tu salud, como un entrenamiento personal. Ve, pero no solo hagas ejercicio allí, sino toma nota de las recomendaciones de los instructores o de las rutinas de ejercicio. Cuando el contrato se termine, habrás aprendido la rutina y las recomendaciones y podrás practicarlas para mantenerte saludable y en forma sin pagar más.
