EE.UU. detiene casi 2.5 millones de migrantes en el período fiscal 2022
Cerca de 2.5 millones de detenciones de migrantes indocumentados fueron detenidos en las fronteras de Estados Unidos en los primeros 11 meses del año fiscal 2022, según datos revelados este lunes por la oficina de Aduanas y Protección Fronteriza (CBP).
El total acumulado de encuentros (detenciones) registrados por CBP del 1 de octubre de 2021 al 31 de agosto de 2022 llegó a 2.493.723. La mayoría se registraron en la frontera sur, con un total 2.150.244.
En este lapso, la CBP ha repatriado y expulsado a 1.300.467 extranjeros, destacó la agencia en un comunicado.
En agosto se registraron 203.598 encuentros a lo largo de la frontera sur. El 22 % de estas detenciones fueron con migrantes que ya habían sido expulsados del país.
La CBP dijo que las detenciones con extranjeros que ingresaron por primera vez al país en agosto (157.921) representan un aumento de 2,2 % respecto a las de migrantes que ingresaron por primera vez en julio, impulsado en gran medida por una mayor cantidad de solicitantes de asilo de Venezuela, Cuba y Nicaragua.
Por primera vez, de agosto, 55.333 del total fueron de migrantes oriundos de Venezuela, Cuba o Nicaragua, lo que representa el 35 % del total de ellos ese mes, un aumento de 175 % respecto a hace un año.
“Los regímenes comunistas fallidos en Venezuela, Nicaragua y Cuba están impulsando una nueva ola de migración en todo el hemisferio occidental, incluido el reciente aumento de encuentros en la frontera suroeste de Estados Unidos”, destacó el comisionado de CBP, Chris Magnus, en el comunicado.
La cifra de migrantes de México y América Central que ingresaron por las fronteras de EE.UU. cayó por tercer mes consecutivo y representó solo el 36 % de las detenciones con personas que ingresaron por primera vez, lo que marca una disminución de 43 % frente a agosto de 2021.
Magnus atribuyó el descenso al trabajo del Gobierno del presidente Joe Biden con “nuestros socios en la región para abordar las causas fundamentales de la migración, facilitar la repatriación y tomar medidas contra miles de contrabandistas”.
Añadió que “más personas encontradas en la frontera sin una base legal para permanecer serán expulsadas o removidas este año que cualquier año anterior”.
El Título 42, que permite la expulsión de migrantes por razones sanitarias, continúa vigente en la frontera. EFE
