EMBARK inicia el programa piloto de tarifas gratuitas

OKLAHOMA CITY – Funcionarios de EMBARK han lanzado hoy un programa piloto de seis meses para tarifas gratuitas en el tranvía de OKC, que se celebra hasta el 5 de julio. EMBARK planea utilizar el programa piloto de tarifas gratuitas para ayudar a aumentar la demanda de pasajeros y apoyar la actividad económica local. 

"Durante nuestro año fiscal que finalizó el 30 de junio de 2025, OKC Streetcar registró un nuevo récord de pasajeros con un total de 288.517 pasajeros anuales", dijo Jesse Rush, director de EMBARK. "Aunque este crecimiento es alentador, ciudades similares como Kansas City, Milwaukee y Cincinnati han demostrado que el servicio de tranvía circular circular en el centro sin tarifa puede aumentar significativamente la afluencia de pasajeros y el crecimiento año tras año. Oklahoma City lanza este piloto de seis meses para comprobar si eliminar las tarifas reduce aún más las barreras, aumenta el uso y mejora la movilidad del centro. Los resultados de este piloto determinarán directamente si un servicio permanente sin tarifas es la estrategia adecuada a largo plazo para el tranvía de OKC."

Rush añadió que la afluencia de pasajeros en el tranvía de OKC aumenta durante los periodos en que el tranvía de OKC es gratuito, más recientemente durante la promoción Downtown in December.

El programa piloto gratuito dará a los residentes y visitantes de Oklahoma City la oportunidad de probar el tranvía de OKC de forma gratuita, para ayudarles a moverse más fácilmente por el centro para tareas que pueden incluir salir a comer, desplazarse a eventos en el centro o hacer compras.

"A medida que Oklahoma City añade más viviendas y atracciones en el centro, el tranvía de OKC puede ayudar a aliviar la congestión del tráfico", dijo Kharlie Barnaby, subdirectora de EMBARK. "Tanto si alguien vive en el centro como si viaja por un evento, puede usar el tranvía de OKC para complementar o sustituir un viaje peatonal, lo cual es especialmente útil durante el mal tiempo o para eventos que se celebran más tarde por la noche."

El sistema de tranvías de OKC consta de siete tranvías modernos que constan de 22 paradas y operan los siete días de la semana.

Durante el periodo piloto, los pasajeros no necesitan boleto para subir al tranvía de OKC y pueden embarcar en cualquier estación de este tramvia.

EMBARK kick off OKC Streetcar free fare pilot program

Free rides on the OKC Streetcar begin Jan. 5 through July 5

OKLAHOMA CITY – Officials with EMBARK today launched a six-month pilot  program for free fares on the OKC Streetcar now through July 5. EMBARK plans to use the free fare pilot program to help boost ridership demand and support local economic activity. 

“During our fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2025, OKC Streetcar saw a new record high ridership totaling 288,517 annual riders,” said Jesse Rush, Director of EMBARK. “While this growth is encouraging,  peer cities, such as Kansas City, Milwaukee and Cincinnati, have demonstrated that fare-free downtown circulator streetcar service can significantly increase ridership and year over year growth. Oklahoma City is launching this six-month pilot to test whether removing fares further reduces barriers, increases usage, and enhances downtown mobility. The results of this pilot will directly inform whether a permanent fare-free service is the right long-term strategy for the OKC Streetcar.”

Rush added that ridership on the OKC Streetcar increases during periods when the OKC Streetcar is free, most recently during the Downtown in December promotion. 

The free fare pilot will give Oklahoma City residents and visitors an opportunity to try the OKC Streetcar for free to help them more easily move around downtown for tasks that may include dining out, travelling to downtown events or shopping. 

“As Oklahoma City adds more housing and attractions within the downtown area, the OKC Streetcar can help ease traffic congestion,” said Kharlie Barnaby, Assistant Director of EMBARK. “Whether someone lives downtown or travels downtown for an event, they can use the OKC Streetcar to complement or replace a pedestrian trip, which is particularly useful during inclement weather or for events held later at night.”  

The OKC Streetcar system consists of seven modern streetcars and two loops that consist of 22 stops and operate seven days a week.

• 6 – 2 a.m. Friday

• 7 – 2 a.m. Saturday

• 7 a.m. – 10 p.m. Sunday

• 7 – 2 a.m. Saturday

• 7 a.m. – 10 p.m. Sunday 

During the pilot period, riders do not need a ticket to board the OKC Streetcar and can board at any OKC Streetcar platform.
