Aunque las tarjetas de crédito y débito tienen muchas similitudes, y en términos generales tienen la misma funcionalidad, existen ventajas competitivas entre una y otra que debes saber para llevar las finanzas a otro nivel. Contrario a lo que pueda creerse, usar tarjetas de crédito brinda mejores beneficios a los usuarios, ya que permite:
• Construir tu historial crediticio:
Para nadie es un secreto que tener un buen puntaje es clave para acceder a mejores oportunidades, desde la compra de una vivienda, hasta la obtención de tasas de interés más bajas en préstamos. Para ello, la tarjeta de crédito será una de tus grandes aliadas, teniendo en cuenta que los emisores de estas deben reportar tus pagos a las agencias de informes crediticios. Lo más importante es que difieras tus compras a una sola cuota y pagues antes de las fechas de corte de tus tarjetas.
• Protegerte contra fraudes:
En general, las compañías de tarjetas de crédito tienen un sistema de protección al consumidor mucho más robusto que las de débito. Si se realiza un pago no autorizado, puedes interponer una disputa y no eres responsable de pagar hasta que tu solicitud no haya sido investigada y resuelta.
Asimismo, para las compras en línea, dado que el riesgo de fraude suele ser mayor, se recomienda el uso de tus tarjetas de crédito ya que cuentan con una capa adicional de seguridad, e incluso algunas tienen sistemas de autenticación en dos factores o números de tarjeta virtuales para hacer pagos más seguros.
• Obtener recompensas y descuentos:
Las tarjetas de crédito a menudo ofrecen beneficios como descuentos, puntos, millas o cashback que puedes utilizar en diferentes comercios o aeropuertos. Además, si eres un apasionado de los viajes, muchas de estas tarjetas pueden ofrecerte sin costo alguno seguros de viajes, entradas gratuitas o con costos bajos a salas VIP, experiencias premium, entre otros.
¿Cuándo entonces utilizar tarjetas de débito?

En resumen, lo más recomendable es comprar con tarjeta de crédito y conocer cuál es su fecha de corte, para pagar así la totalidad de la deuda desde tu tarjeta de débito, obteniendo todos los beneficios que ofrece el mercado.
