Feria Hispana de la Salud 29 DE ABRIL
Oklahoma City.-Según el estudio demográfico de 2020 de la Oficina del Censo de los EE. UU., hay aproximadamente 62.1 millones de hispanos viviendo en Estados Unidos y representan alrededor del 18,9 por ciento de la población total de los Estados Unidos. Entre los subgrupos hispanos, los mexicanos aparecen como el grupo de mayor representación, con un 61.6 por ciento. Luego se encuentran los puertorriqueños (9.6 por ciento), los centroamericanos (9'3 por ciento), los sudamericanos (6.4 por ciento), otros grupos hispanos (incluyendo españoles) (5.8 por ciento) y los cubanos (3.9 por ciento).
Por otro lado los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades han señalado algunas de las principales causas de enfermedad y mortalidad entre los hispanos. Entre ellas se encuentran el cáncer, las enfermedades cardíacas, heridas no intencionales (como accidentes), derrames cerebrales y diabetes. En 2020, la principal causa de muerte entre los hispanos fue el COVID-19. Algunos otros padecimientos y factores de riesgo que afectan notoriamente a los hispanos son la enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica, el asma, las enfermedades del hígado, influenza (gripe) o neumonía, suicidio y enfermedades del riñón.
"Los altos porcentajes de indices de mortalidad debido a estas enfermedades es alarmante. Pero existen examenes que ayudan a prevenir el desarrollo de estas enfermedades y si son tratadas a tiempo el paciente puede llegar a curase o por lo menos podria tener una mejor calidad de vida" dijo la Dra. Romo, a través de una entrevista realizada con el periodico El Latino American de Oklahoma.
