Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma’s $700,000 Holiday Match Available Through Jan. 15

(OKLAHOMA CITY)– Spread holiday cheer by doubling the impact of your donation in the fight against hunger through the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma's Holiday Match. Through Jan. 15, every donation is matched, dollar for dollar, up to $700,000 thanks to presenting sponsor APMEX with additional support from the Cresap Family Foundation.

The Holiday Match comes at a critical time for too many Oklahoma families who are feeling the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, an economic downturn and a devastating ice storm. The match ensures that each dollar donated to the Regional Food Bank helps to provide eight meals to Oklahomans living with food insecurity. After the match is met, every dollar still helps provide four meals.

“APMEX is honored to step in to support our neighbors in need,” said Scott Thomas, founder and president of APMEX. “I personally dealt with childhood hunger and understand the struggles too many families face in trying to put food on the table, especially during the holidays. We encourage Oklahomans to join us in this fight and donate during the match to ensure their dollars go twice as far!”

One in six Oklahomans lack consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. The Regional Food Bank and its network of partner agencies in central and western Oklahoma have reported a 30 percent increase in new clients since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"This year has been particularly difficult for Oklahomans. Our neighbors in central and western Oklahoma should not have to worry about where their meals will come from this holiday season," said Stacy Dykstra, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank. "We are grateful to APMEX and the Cresap Family Foundation for providing this opportunity to our donors to make the most out of their contributions."

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the Regional Food Bank has found innovative ways to continue providing meals to a growing number of Oklahomans. In November, the organization joined a collaborative food distribution that distributed frozen ham, turkey and canned fruit and vegetables to more than 700 families in northeast Oklahoma City.

“The issue of hunger is widespread in our state and affects countless families, children, seniors and veterans,” said John Cresap with the Cresap Family Foundation. “We are immensely proud to partner with the Regional Food Bank and APMEX to provide incentive for others to join the fight against hunger.”
