Senador recibe "Premio Liberty Bell" por sus esfuerzos legislativos para proteger a los niños de OklahOMA

OKLAHOMA CITY- El senador Warren Hamilton, republicano de McCurtain, recibió recientemente el Premio Liberty Bell de la Asociación de Fiscales de Distrito de Oklahoma por sus esfuerzos legislativos para proteger a los niños de Oklahoma.

"Me gustaría agradecer a la Asociación de Fiscales de Distrito por su destacado trabajo en la búsqueda de justicia y por considerarme para el Premio Liberty Bell", dijo Hamilton. "Si bien mi nombre puede estar en este premio, lo acepto en nombre de todas las personas involucradas en nuestro sistema de justicia penal, desde las fuerzas del orden hasta el personal, los fiscales de distrito y sus asistentes, cuya razón de servicio es la protección de los inocentes y la justicia para las víctimas. Hamilton fue reconocido por sus esfuerzos para hacer que las penas de Oklahoma para los delincuentes sexuales infantiles se encuentren entre las más duras de la nación a través del Proyecto de Ley del Senado 599.

Según la nueva ley resultante, que entra en vigencia el 1 de noviembre, los fiscales tienen la discreción de buscar la pena de muerte para las personas condenadas por violación infantil en una primera ofensa. El proyecto de ley también permite a los jueces sentenciar a personas condenadas por abuso lascivo de un niño menor de 14 años a cadena perpetua sin posibilidad de libertad condicional.

Senator Receives Liberty Bell Award for his legislative efforts to protect Oklahoma’s children.

OKLAHOMA CITY- Senator Warren Hamilton, R-McCurtain, was recently presented the Liberty Bell Award  by the Oklahoma District Attorney’s Association for his legislative efforts to protect Oklahoma’s children.

“I would like to thank the District Attorney’s Association for their outstanding work in the pursuit of justice and for considering me for the Liberty Bell Award,” Hamilton said. “While my name might be on this award, I accept it on behalf of every person involved in our criminal justice system, from law enforcement to staffers to district attorneys and their assistants, whose reason for their service is the protection of the innocent and justice for the victims. Thank you for your service and your sacrifice.”

Hamilton was recognized for his efforts to make Oklahoma’s penalties for child sex offenders among the toughest in the nation through Senate Bill 599.

Under the resulting new law, which takes effect on November 1, prosecutors have the discretion to seek the death penalty for individuals convicted of child rape on a first offense. The bill also allows judges to sentence individuals convicted of lewd molestation of a child under the age of 14 to life without the possibility of parole.

Senator Hamilton’s legislative efforts have consistently prioritized the protection of children. The Liberty Bell Award serves as a symbol of his ongoing effort to uphold justice, safeguard the innocent, and champion laws that reflect the values of the state.
