Entrevista con Jasmine Danae Carolina.
“Mi nombre es Jasmine Danae Carolina. Soy un estudiante de segundo año entrante en la Universidad Estatal de Wichita. Mi especialidad es comunicación / periodismo. Soy ex alumno de la clase de graduados fundadores de Cristo Rey.”
Jazmine comparte la mejor parte de su 1er año en su escuela/universidad con el periodico El Latino American.
“La mejor parte de mi primer año en la Universidad Estatal de Wichita fue involucrarme en diferentes grupos. Soy miembro de la Unión de Estudiantes Negros en el campus. Poder estar cerca de mi cultura y de las personas que se parecen a mí. Conocer gente nueva, ir a diferentes entornos, aprender sobre nuestra cultura en el campus. Tener apoyo en el campus. Las diferentes experiencias que he tenido en el campus. Establecer contactos y esforzarme por alcanzar mis objetivos.
¿Cuáles fueron algunos desafíos en su 1er año escolar?
Soledad, si estás cerca de tu familia y amigos es difícil alejarse. Tuve que crecer y ser más independiente y crecer y aprender a hacer las cosas por mi cuenta.
¿Cómo te preparó Cristo Rey para la universidad?
Chaney, ella la empujará a hacer lo mejor que pueda, incluso cuando esté en su punto más bajo. Ella se preparó sabiendo que necesitaba ese sistema de apoyo adicional. Cristo Rey también me preparó al tener ese sistema de apoyo, uno que es como una familia. Me he adaptado a mi entorno en Wichita State y he encontrado un sistema de apoyo en el campus. Cristo Rey también me enseñó sobre la fe, necesitas tener esa relación con Dios. Basse nos enseñó nuestros valores fundamentales: Fe, Servicio, Propósito.
¿Cuál ha sido la clase más interesante que tomaste este primer año escolar?
En cuanto a mi especialidad y carrera, ha sido mi clase de comunicaciones. Aprender cómo funcionan nuestros medios, qué pueden aprender las personas de los demás, cómo mantener a las personas comprometidas. Para mi clase extracurricular fue mi clase de Introducción a las Artes, teníamos tres partes diferentes en la clase. Nunca pensé que estaría escuchando música, viendo baile y aprendiendo sobre esculturas como estudiante de comunicaciones.
¿Quién ha sido parte de su sistema de apoyo en este nuevo viaje? ¿Cómo te adaptaste a esta nueva etapa o fase de tu vida?
Gupta, mis amigos y familiares. Lo tomo día a día, siendo de mente abierta y experimento todo. Mantengo un horario muy apretado y me mantengo ocupado. No hay tiempo para la siesta.
¿Dónde te ves en 5 años cuando termines con la universidad?
En 5 años, me veo graduado, con la esperanza de prepararme para una buena pasantía o trabajo. Espero trabajar con el New York Times. Me encanta estar escribiendo, encuentra esa historia para producir.
¿Cómo te involucras en el campus? ¿En qué tipo de actividades o clubes participas?
Voy a diferentes eventos en el campus, me presento a personas que he visto una y otra vez. Me uno a diferentes grupos.
Por favor, comparta cualquier consejo para las clases más jóvenes.
Para las generaciones más jóvenes, no permita que las personas planifiquen su vida, todos experimentan la vida de manera diferente. Sé paciente, sé humilde, sé amable con la gente. Cuando se trata de la universidad, elige en función de dónde quieres estar en la vida, dónde te sientes cómodo. Ve a donde veas tu hogar. Cuando se trata de clases, recuerda que estás pagando por ellas, ve a clase. Comunícate con tus consejeros en el campus. Manténgase en contacto con personas de casa. Eres genial, eres maravilloso.
