Sobreviviendo al Cáncer
El primer domingo de junio se celebra el día del sobreviviente de cáncer. Ser un sobreviviente implica una serie de eventos que llevan a un paciente desde su diagnóstico, pasando por la incertidumbre del tratamiento hasta llegar a obtener la grata noticia… “estas libre de la enfermedad”. Proceso que se asemeja a la evolución de la mariposa desde larva hasta convertirse en la hermosa mariposa.
Un diagnóstico de cáncer es una realidad desbastadora, que, hasta no entenderla y procesarla, no deja de ser un problema grande para el hogar, la familia, especialmente en nuestra comunidad, donde por costumbre compartimos con los parientes, el día a día de sus experiencias por esta enfermedad.
Los sobrevivientes de cáncer entienden perfectamente su situación actual y se preocupan por su salud y su cuidado, cosa muchos de ellos no lo hacían antes, ayudando de esta manera a que su remisión sea completa y duradera. Para lograr esto se ven obligados a replantear su vida, modificar comportamientos de riesgo, se interesan por sus antecedentes familiares a fin de cubrir todos los frentes que los puedan llevar a una nueva enfermedad. Es decir, aprendieron su lección y quieren compartirla con sus descendientes, con la esperanza de cortar el circulo de esta enfermedad.
Ahora su objetivo principal es ser y estar saludables, evitando o limitando el uso del alcohol y el tabaco, controlando la exposición al sol, teniendo un buen plan alimenticio, que les mantenga bien nutridos, incrementar las actividades físicas, en post de mantener un peso adecuado, en fin, están totalmente motivados en su evolución y paso por esta enfermedad para tener una sobrevida buena y a plenitud.
Un diagnóstico de cáncer, por irónico que parezca, es el punto en la vida de las personas, en el que el tiempo se detiene literalmente, iniciando un proceso de evaluación, las cosas que se han realizado, metas alcanzadas los cambios que son necesarios; en general lo que se pudo y lo que no se pudo hacer y que ahora se convierten en grandes desafíos.
El Grupo de Apoyo de Cáncer en español de INTEGRIS Health, participó de un especial evento organizado por el INTEGRIS Cancer Institute, el domingo 1ero de Junio, en el Scissortail Park, en donde los sobrevivientes y sus familias compartieron de música, snacks y sobre todo expresaron la necesidad y la ventaja de trabajar en equipo, ya que juntos podemos alcanzar mejores resultados. INTEGRIS Health reiteró que esta siempre dispuesto a acompañarles en su viaje por esta enfermedad.
Además, se dejó saber a las participantes del grupo en español que estamos ya organizándonos para la celebración del aniversario del grupo, evento en el que sobrevivientes y sus familias comparten experiencias en un ambiente agradable de educación y compañerismo.
