What is Day of the Dead?

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a celebration held in Mexico and in Central American countries where family members commemorate their ancestors in a way that is different from customs in the United States. This important holiday is held on November 1 and November 2. It is a holiday that mixes parts of Roman Catholicism with Native American traditions that pre-date the arrival of the Spanish in the Americas.

Families often set up offerings or altars called ofrendas, either at home or at the cemetery. Throughout the Dia de los Muertos will remember their ancestors by honoring their memory, by feasting on foods (such as pan de muerto or calaveras de azucar), and playing or singing the songs which were favored by their ancestors. Some ofrendas are also decorated with marigolds and calaveras made of papier-mache.

¿Qué es el Día de Muertos?

Día de los muertos es una occasio celebrada en México y en países de América Central miembros familiares conmemoran a sus ancestros en una manera diferente de lo que se acostumbra an en los Estados Unidos. Este día festivo importante se celebra del Noviembre 1 hasta Noviembre 2. Es un día festivo que mezcla partes del catolicismo romano y tradiciones nativo americanas que preceden la llegada de Españoles en las Américas.

Las familias por lo regular ponen ofrendas en altares, en el hogar o en el cementerio. Durante el día de los muertos la gente recuerda a sus ancestros conmemorando su memoria, comiendo ( comidas especiales como el pan de muerto o calaveras de azúcar), y tocando/ cantando canciones que eran favorecidas por sus ancestros. También es común decorar altares con flores de cempasúchil y calaveras hechas de papel mache.

General Information for Day of the Dead Arts Festival 2020

Living Arts of Tulsa, in partnership with Casa de la Cultura is hosting Tulsa’s annual Día de los Muertos Arts Festival on November 1st, 2020. Día de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a celebration of the Hispanic/Latin heritage honoring loved ones who have passed away.

Festival Tickets: The tickets for the Festival are LIVE! We have time slots open from 1:00-3:00 PM, 4:00-6:00 PM, and 10:00-11:30 PM! The time slot from 7:00-9:00 PM is going to be reserved for families that have altars in the gallery.

Please, only get the number of tickets you truly need. We have limited tickets this year so be mindful of others wanting to attend the festival.  Masks will be required for the festival and tickets need to be shown for entry.

Información general para el Festival de Artes del Dia de los Muertos 2020 

Living Arts de Tulsa, en colaboración con Casa de la Cultura está celebrando el festival anual Dia de los Muertos de Tulsa en Noviembre 1, 2020. Dia de los Muertos es una celebración de patrimonio Latinx que honora queridos que han pasado. Este evento crea puentes entre culturas Latinx y no Latinx en Tulsa creando una manera de que los Tulseanos honren a amigos y ancestros difuntos.

Boletos para Festival: ¡Ya se pueden obtener tickets! Tenemos tiempos disponibles de 1:00-3:00 PM, 4:00-6:00 PM y 10:00-11:00 PM! El tiempo de 7:00PM-9:00PM va a ser reservado para familias que tienen altares en la galería.

POR FAVOR nada mas obtengan el número de tickets que vayan a necesitar. Tenemos tickets limitados este año entonces consideren a otros que quieran atender el festival. Máscaras van a ser requeridas para el festival y los tickets necesitan ser mostrados para entrar.
